Websites & Web Applications

A website that earns its place, not just fills one.

Most business websites are brochures nobody reads. We build sites that load quickly, get found, explain what you do, and make it easy to get in touch — and that you can update yourself afterwards.

What this covers

Three kinds of website, and they are not the same job.

Knowing which one you need changes the cost by an order of magnitude, so it is worth being clear about it before anyone quotes you.

A site that explains and persuades

For most businesses this is the right answer. A handful of well-written pages that say who you are, what you sell, what it costs and how to reach you. Fast, findable, and easy for you to edit. Nothing clever, nothing unnecessary.

An online store

Products, stock, payments, delivery charges, tax, invoices and refunds — and all of it has to keep working on a Sunday when nobody is watching. We build these on established platforms rather than inventing a shop from scratch, because a shop that breaks costs you money by the hour.

A web application

Something people log into and use: a booking system, a portal for your customers, a dashboard for your team. This is software rather than a website, and we scope it as software — properly, in stages, with you seeing it as it is built.

What every one of them includes

Every site we build works properly on a phone, because that is where most of your visitors are. Every site is built to be found: real page titles, real descriptions, sensible addresses, and the structured data search engines read. And every site is handed over with the accounts in your name.

What you get

Not just a design. A working thing you own.

Here is what is on the table at the end, in every case.

A site that is quick

Compressed images, no unnecessary plugins, and pages that load in a second or two on an ordinary phone connection. Speed is the single biggest thing most sites get wrong.

A site that can be found

Proper titles and descriptions on every page, a sitemap, structured data, and the settings that let Google index you correctly from day one.

A site you can edit

We show you how to change the words, the prices and the pictures yourself, and we write it down in plain language. You should not have to pay us to fix a typo.

Everything in your name

Domain, hosting, analytics, email — all registered to you, with the passwords handed over. We do not keep hold of your accounts.

How we price it

Fixed price against a written scope.

Three sizes, each with a fixed price. If none of them fits your budget, we will tell you what a smaller version costs rather than quietly cutting corners on a bigger one.

Prices exclude GST. Every one is a fixed price against a written scope — it does not move unless you ask for something that was not in it. See everything we charge, and what each option includes →

The figure you see is the figure you pay. It is written into the proposal before anything starts, and the only thing that changes it is you asking for something that was not in the scope — which we price separately for you to approve first.

Ongoing hosting, updates, backups and small changes are a separate monthly amount, agreed in advance and cancellable at any time.

What makes a website cost more: the number of distinct page layouts, whether you are taking payments, whether anyone logs in, whether content has to come from another system, and how many languages it runs in. What does not: asking us to explain something twice.

Who this is for

Anyone who is losing work because of their website.

The usual signs, in our experience:

  • Your site was built years ago and nobody now has the login.
  • It looks wrong on a phone, which is where nearly all your visitors are.
  • People find you on Google and then leave without contacting you.
  • You cannot change a price or add a page without paying somebody.
  • You are taking orders on WhatsApp or over the phone and losing track of them.
  • You are starting something new and want it done properly the first time.

Honestly

If your current site is nearly right, say so. Rebuilding is not always the answer, and we will happily quote for fixing what you have instead — it is usually cheaper, and we would rather have a client who trusts us than a bigger invoice once.

Common questions

Asked before most projects start.

Do I need to buy hosting and a domain separately?

You can, and we recommend it, because then they are unquestionably yours. We will tell you exactly what to buy and set it all up. If you would rather we handled it, we can, and we still register everything in your name.

Can I update the website myself afterwards?

Yes. That is a requirement of everything we build, not an extra. We hand over written instructions in plain language and walk you through the parts you will use most.

How long does a website take?

A straightforward site is usually a few weeks once we have your content; a store or a web application takes longer. You get a written timeline in the proposal before you agree to anything, and we tell you promptly if anything is going to slip.

What if I do not have the words or the photographs?

That is normal and it is the most common reason projects stall. We can write the pages with you from a conversation, and advise on photography. Say so early and we will build it into the plan rather than waiting on you.
